Ninth Realm from the US erupt on the scene with a scathing form of death/thrash metal music bearing influences of hardcore and heavy metal, with a slight blackened edge. The songs are elaborately constructed, each with their share of hooks and breakdowns in addition to effective and memorable riffing. The music takes a narrative process pertaining to their original dark fantasy world, Tythorin, while being intense and violent for the most part. They draw from the classic old school death/thrash sound without sounding too derivative, in large part due to their heavy metal-inspired songwriting approach. The system is failing, the clock is running down. Our proud empire crumbles as we vacate our throne and slip quietly into the dark spaces behind the walls. We are ghosts in our own machines…unneeded, unwanted, unnecessary. We run with the rats amidst the rusting pipes - tired, ineffectual viruses on a gradual, inevitable path to extinction. The world is waking from our fading dream and there is no place for us in this brave new existence of our own creation. Time has moved on and we will soon be forgotten.

In late 2025 Harrison McKenzie of New Zealand's prime purveyors of atmospheric black metal, Olde Throne, turned his attention to a personal exploration of experimental, blackened death metal, inspired by societal decline and humanity's self-propelled descent into absolute obsolescence. This project became Immiserator, a potent force combining vicious riffs and desolate atmosphere, a cold, mechanistic soul and deeply affecting emotion. Having signed with Apocalyptic Witchcraft, committed champions of challenging, boundary smashing, extreme musical art, McKenzie is now ready to unveil Immiserator's devastating debut album - Blight Of Subsistence.

The album opens with the bleak, martial advance of 'Engine Of Collapse' which erupts into an overwhelming swarm of blackened death metal madness as its fuse is lit. Once unleashed this track seems to pursue you with a relentless tenacity and like running before an avalanche, the outcome of the chase is inevitable. Excoriating screams and haunting chants speak of our ultimate downfall as an atmospheric mist of fear and despair rises up between the enmeshing teeth of cascading, dissonant riffs. From this decimating beginning Blight Of Subsistence just becomes heavier and darker in every aspect, its grip on your consciousness tighter and increasingly inescapable; from the serrated, saw blade riffs and imperious gravitas of 'Consigned To The Furnace', to 'Age Of Consumption', a haunting, disorientating, grief-ridden lament for humanity - a stuttering, broken heartbeat drowning in sorrow beneath the towering walls of the suffocating machine. Even 'A Brief Suspension Between Use And Obsolescence', which isolates and exposes the atmosphere that pervades the secret places of the other songs, creating a quiet meditation on the inevitability of the end, is crushing in its portentous weight. The penultimate 'Inevitable Destiny' encapsulates the essence of Blight Of Subsistence, its melody lines imbued with a profound sadness and an aura of resignation that is chilling. And it all leads to the album's title track, 'Blight Of Subsistence', a roiling, turbulent storm cloud of riffs and rhythms. At its heart the presence of a mournful saxophone is a masterstroke that bleeds into a remarkable guitar solo, the intensity building, climbing towards oblivion…which, when it comes is disarmingly peaceful…as the fear, the panic, the dread, the anticipation of agony all dissipate into silent darkness.

Written, performed and recorded by Harrison McKenzie, Blight Of Subsistence is a monumental work of enthralling extremity. "As we’ve stated previously, our fifth album is thematically the darkest Brymir album ever. This music video for the song “Tempestbound” underlines that. The theme of the song: war in all its madness, our tragic human inability to let go of this madness, and in fact do the opposite; our tendency to elevate warfare to a sacred calling through any conjurable charismatic leaders or belief system loopholes. And for what? Oil? Resources? Riches? Those very things that are destroyed completely in the “process” of acquiring them... Madness.
The song is frantic, the theme is insanity, and we couldn’t think of a better partner to bring this wild piece of art to life than Joel Korhonen of Noise Media with whom we previously worked on the “Wings of Fire” music video. A perfectly maddening blur at times, this is the heaviest imagery we’ve ever worked with, and the song absolutely warrants it. Thus we are, titularly, Tempestbound."

Helsinki-based BRYMIR make a strong case for melodic death metal with What We Leave Behind, coming October 2, 2026 via Napalm Records! In a darkening world full of existential dread, the Finnish band—singer Viktor Storm Gullichsen, guitarist Joona Björkroth, bassist Jarkko Niemi, and drummer Patrik Fält—takes a stand with their most sinister album yet. Again heavily influenced by their singer’s main job as a movie sound designer, BRYMIR create vast cinematic soundscapes around their sometimes bleak, sometimes hopeful, but always honest messages.

In the video for the lead single “Ghosts Among the Obelisks” a warrior makes the choice to leave the lowlands and the ruins of the old world to seek a clan of hunters in a fabled forest sanctuary deep in the mountains. While traversing a landscape of broken concrete and rusted metal he encounters spirits both good and evil.

Kings of USBM, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have returned with sharpened teeth with their new album Estuary.

The record is set 1000 years in the future. Survivors of a cataclysm wander the haunted ruins. It is a world of mutant creatures and open portals Post-apocalyptic religion takes form in a wild landscape.

Estuary is raw and volatile with the storming sensuality of noisy industrial elements, evolving through the domain of warm rain, majestic forests and diffused starlight. Massive percussion and seething gothic guitars wipe the listener’s psyche clear of all stagnation, transforming them into active, evolutionary conduits.

Wolves in the Throne Room will be opening portals and performing songs from Estuary on the "Knights of Tiamat Tour" across the UK and Europe this fall, followed by the USA in early 2027.

DOWN was never just a band. It’s a brotherhood rooted in childhood friendships that have endured for decades. It’s an homage to the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It’s music meant for anybody who has ever headbanged, played air guitar, or worn a weathered tour t-shirt like armor. For over three decades, the quintet – Philip H. Anselmo, Pepper Keenan, Kirk Windstein, Jimmy Bower, and Pat Bruders – have quietly built a legacy like no other. When these individuals congregate, magic ensues, conjured by earthquaking grooves, bellowing straight from the soul, and riffing loud enough to awaken an ancient deity.
